My Kind of Weekend

I spent most of my weekend stitching. Saturday, I spent the day stitching with Pam Kellogg of Kitty and Me Designs at her warm and charming home. Pam is a very creative lady and her crazy quilts are so beautiful. You can see more of her work on her website.

I think it's cute how her cat, Nightmare, snuck into the picture.

It was a rainy Sunday, so it made for another perfect day to sit on the couch and stitch. I worked on a Christmas pillow case.

And my Cathedral Window bedcover.

Hope you all had a good weekend.

iPad Case

There are times I need to carry my iPad with me, and I don't feel comfortable just putting it in my purse. The smart cover protects my screen, but I wanted a little more all around protection. I searched online for cases, but didn't see anything that appealed to me, so I decided to make my own.

I took a few measurements, some stash fabric I didn't care for and just started sewing. I added this and that as I went along. This is what I came up with a few hours later.

Not so good.

I added a button for the closure, but when I folded the flap over, it was way too bulky. I didn't account for the padding in my seam allowance, so the iPad fit a little snug. This case was just not going to work, so I decided to give it another try. I made the adjustments, re-designed the flap, and this is how it came out.

TaDa!

The fit is perfect, and it has just enough padding to protect it against those loose things in my purse. I decided to use Velcro for the flap and it closes nice and flat. Much better  : )

A Full Day

Today was a perfect fall day. Sunny, 65 degrees and no wind. The day was filled with back to back softball games. My daughter whose about to go home in this picture loves to play softball.

What completed my day was receiving this little package of goodies from Flights of Fancy Boutique. It's a bag of embellishments that I plan on using for a future crazy quilt project.

There are beautiful trim pieces, ribbon, scrap fabric and old photographs.

Hope you had a good fall day as well.

Civil War Tea Party

Our 5th/6th grade homeschoolers celebrated the end of their Civil War unit with a tea party. Re-enactors were invited to join in on the celebration. The kids really enjoyed the visitors presentation, the snacks, and especially dressing up.

The boys had a hard time being serious for their photo. Aren't they cute?

My daughter got to experience what it was like to spend the day in a hooped dress. We had some good laughs with her going through doorways and getting in the car.

Too Fun!

Tissue Holder

There are times I go to reach in my purse for a pack of tissues and find them scrunched up and messy. Somehow they always end up at the bottom of my purse. I think I solved my problem with this tissue pack holder pattern by Suzanne Surfass. This was a fun project that allowed me to use up some scrap material and add as much stitching as I wanted.

Fresh Farm Eggs

Fresh farm eggs make me Happy! There is a huge difference between farm fresh eggs and store bought eggs. The yokes are deep yellow to orange in color, the shells are thicker, and the taste is richer.

Invisible Shield

My dilemma....To shield or not to shield my iPad.

I was very hesitant about putting a screen protector on because I like the feel and look of my iPad. I do have a smart cover, BUT? There's always a BUT. What if? Have you ever tried to view a picture through a scratched screen? My paranoid self decided to give this $30 Invisible Shield protector a try.

OMG! This is the second invisible shield I've had experience with, and I have to tell you....it's not fun! And if your picky about the look of things, like I am, then you're going to drive yourself mad. Once you open the package, there's no turning back. And, of course, with the iPad screen you have 6 times more space to cover, so you might need a few extra hands, like I did. I had to have my daughter keep spraying my fingers to keep them moist while wrestling the protector. Ok, you get the point.

My Review; After the third attempt, I still have a few tiny bubbles hanging around. The screen has a bit of a sticky feel to it. Face time picture quality is still good. I do feel better having some protection against scratches. Now, let's see if I can live with these few tiny bubbles and leave well enough alone.
